Aerlon Junior Privacy Notice

Last updated: April 28, 2026

This notice is specifically for parents of children under 13 using Aerlon Junior. It complements the general Aerlon Privacy Policy and is required by the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA, 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506).

Who this is for

This notice is written for parents and legal guardians of children under 13 who use Aerlon Junior. If your child is 13 or older, this notice still describes our practices but COPPA's strictest requirements don't apply.

How Aerlon Junior works (the consent model)

Aerlon Junior uses a parent-managed account model:

  • You (the parent) create the Aerlon account. You're 18 or older. You provide your email and password. The account belongs to you.
  • Inside your account, you add a "Junior pilot" profile for each child you'd like to fly with. You give the profile a nickname (e.g. "Sky", "Captain Jay") and optionally a birth year.
  • All gameplay data is owned by your account. Your child never has their own login, email, or password. Lessons completed, streaks, gems, and quiz answers are stored against your account, tied to the specific Junior pilot profile.
  • You control everything. From the Family page, you can review your child's progress, switch which Junior pilot is "flying", remove a profile, or export the data.

Because you (the parent) are the legal account-holder and control all data collection, we do not need separate "verifiable parental consent" beyond your acceptance of this notice when you create the Junior profile.

What we collect from your child

Only the following, all entered or selected by you, the parent:

  • A nickname(you choose; capped at 30 characters; should not be the child's real first or last name)
  • A birth year (optional; year only — never the full date of birth)
  • An avatar selection (from a small set of pre-generated cartoons we provide)

What's collected passively as your child uses the app:

  • Lesson completions, questions answered, response times
  • XP earned, gems, streak count, sparks remaining
  • Daily reward (hangar) rolls

What we explicitly do not collect from your child:

  • Email address
  • Password (your child has no login)
  • Real first or last name
  • Photo, voice recording, video
  • Geographic location beyond approximate timezone (derived once at sign-up, used for quiet-hours notifications)
  • Any social media handle
  • Contact list, friend list
  • Address or phone number
  • Information about other children

How we use your child's information

  • Provide lessons. Track which lessons they've done, their performance, their progress.
  • Maintain gamification state. XP, streak, daily hangar rewards.
  • Generate audio narration for lessons (lesson text is sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech with no child identifier — only the lesson text).
  • Show on the leaderboard— only the nickname appears; never the parent's email or any identifying info.

We do not use your child's data to:

  • Show advertising
  • Market to your child or to you
  • Build behavioral profiles for sale
  • Train AI models
  • Share with anyone except the sub-processors below

Who we share with

Sub-processors that help run the service (same as the general Privacy Policy, with kid-specific notes):

  • Supabase— database and authentication hosting. Stores your child's profile and gameplay state.
  • Vercel — application hosting. Processes requests when your child plays a lesson.
  • Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — generates narrated audio. Receives lesson text only; never any child identifier.

Sub-processors that do not receive any child data:

  • Stripe— payments are entirely the parent's. Your child has no Stripe record.
  • Resend — transactional emails go to you, the parent. We never email your child.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — used by our content team to draft lesson questions from public FAA materials, before CFI review. No child data, parent data, or any user information is ever sent to Anthropic.

Your rights as a parent

Under COPPA, you have the following rights at all times. Email us at hello@aerlon.io to exercise any of them — we'll respond within 30 days.

  • Review— see exactly what we have on your child. We'll send you a JSON or PDF dump of every field tied to the Junior profile.
  • Delete — remove the child profile (soft-delete from /family, with a 30-day grace period, then permanent deletion).
  • Refuse further collection — disable the Junior profile so no further data accumulates. The existing data stays for as long as you want it; flag for deletion at any time.
  • Export— request a portable copy of your child's data.
  • Update — correct the nickname or birth year at any time from /family.

We will not condition your child's participation in Aerlon Junior on you disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary.

How long we keep it

  • Active Junior profile: we keep the data while the profile is active. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
  • Soft-deleted Junior profile: when you click Remove on the Family page, we mark the profile as deleted but hold the row for 30 days so you can recover it by mistake. During this window the profile is invisible to gameplay but the data still exists.
  • After 30 days: an automated daily job permanently deletes the profile. Cascading foreign keys remove every related record at the same time — gameplay attempts, vocabulary progress, daily-hangar rolls, badges, cosmetics, the entire history. There is no recovery after the 30-day window.
  • You can request immediate hard deletion at any time by emailing us at hello@aerlon.io; we'll process within 5 business days.

Notification before any change

If we ever materially change how we handle children's data, we'll email you (the parent on file) and will not apply the change to your existing data without obtaining renewed consent.
